The Official “Lost” Podcast from ABC

If you like the sound of a “Lost” podcast, but could do without the family-den production values and amateur talent of our show, it looks like ABC is cooking up something just for you. Yes, there will be an official weekly “Lost” podcast from the network, featuring interviews with cast members and insights from the show’s creators. We do hope you’ll still stick around for our episode-by-episode reviews and fan feedback, though! Official ABC press release follows (and thanks to Cinefantastique Magazine for the tip).

ABC IS SET TO LAUNCH THE FIRST OFFICIAL “LOST” PODCAST SERIES ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8

First Podcast Will Be Available on ABC.com on November 8

Future Podcasts will be Available on both ABC.com and Apple’s iTunes, Beginning on November 15

The ABC Television Network will be launching the first official “Lost” podcast series on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8. The first podcast will be available on ABC.com. Beginning on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, all future podcasts will be available on both ABC.com and Apple’s iTunes.

Each week throughout the November sweeps, various “Lost” cast members, along with informative conversations between creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producer Carlton Cuse, will tease the week’s upcoming episode, as well as answer fan questions.

On Tuesday, November 8, the first podcast will feature Josh Holloway (Sawyer) and Daniel Dae Kim (Jin) providing compelling insights into filming some rather rough raft scenes. Lindelof and Cuse will be on hand to discuss the first season, music and the upcoming episode “Abandoned” (airing on Wednesday, November 9).

Lindelof and Cuse commented, “Damon and I began dreaming about podcasts back when we were working on ‘Nash Bridges’ together – even though there was no such thing yet. Now that those dreams finally make sense, we couldn’t be more excited. If such excitement were measured on a scale of 1-7, ours would be a 19.”

The “Lost” podcasts will be available for download on the official “Lost” website at lost.abc.com (beginning on November 8) and on Apple’s iTunes (beginning on November 15). Users will be able to download the podcasts on both sites at no cost. Podcasts will remain available on each site for an unspecified time.

Fans wishing to post questions to the producers of “Lost” can do so on the “Lost” site at lost.abc.com.

A podcast is the distribution of audio files for download. You can then hear the podcast whenever you want from your computer or a portable media player.

On this Wednesday’s episode, entitled “Abandoned,” Sawyer’s wound becomes life-threatening as he, Michael and Jin make their way through the interior of the island with the tail section survivors. Meanwhile, Shannon is once again haunted by visions of Walt, and Charlie becomes jealous of Locke’s interest in Claire. Ian Somerhalder and Malcolm David Kelley guest star as Boone and Walt, respectively.

“Lost,” which airs WEDNESDAYS (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network, stars Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Mr. Eko, Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Maggie Grace as Shannon, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Dominic Monaghan as Charlie, Terry O’Quinn as Locke, Harold Perrineau as Michael, Michelle Rodriguez as Ana Lucia and Cynthia Watros as Libby.

J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof co-created “Lost” and also serve as executive producers, along with Bryan Burk, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse. “Lost,” which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii, is from Touchstone Television.

  2. sandyg says:

I went to try and find the abc podcast today. It’s not there!!!!!!!!

  3. i think i will stay here. …i am all in it for the little guy. ABC will commercialize their podcast.

…of course i am just jumping to conclusions, but everything for corporations is about making money. if losts ratings werebad, it would go bye bye regardless of how good the show was.

    it happens all the time.

so enjoy listening to the new hummer add while waiting for the interviews.

  4. Mark Irwin says:

I didn’t see the podcast on ABC’s website either.

Interestingly enough, I was able to find the official ABC Lost podcast on iTunes today (11/8). The first episode has a release date of 11/7/2005 and is 17:52 in length.

  5. Bryan Teague says:

Mark is correct. While the podcast for Lost is not on ABC website, it is listed on ITunes already. Even though the press release has it not coming to ITunes untill the 18th. I plan on listening to both podcast because they are both chalked full of Lost goodness.

  6. Aaron Harris says:

Thanks for the heads up on the “official” Lost podcast. I’ll check it out of course but your weekly podcast is still a must. Keep up the great work!

  7. Carla says:

I just listened to the first “L O S T” podcast from ABC… And, so far, I’d hafta say that yours is more interesting and insightful. 🙂

  8. Avery says:

I love The Transmission and may check out ABC’s podcast, but I’m here to stay!

  9. Charlie says:

Why would we ever want to move to a corporate sponsored podcast? Ryan and Jen, you all are doing a fantastic job!!

  10. Tim says:

Okay, I’ve listened to it. Yours is way better.

  11. Martin in Irvine says:

    Jen & Ryan,

Keep up the good work, we are not going anywhere.

  12. George says:

Yep ill tell you know i will be staying tuned to this podcast (before ive even heard the ABC one). Likelihood is you guys will have the better scoops than what ABC want to officially leak to the public. Plus i love listening to your guys take on characters and episodes… very insightful. Keep up the good work!

  13. Jen says:

Gosh, guys. Thank you. We appreciate all of our listeners.

    LOST fans are the best.

  14. Bruce says:

    Ryan and Jen,

Ditto me… keep it up! ABC’s podcast is too polished, too professional. I prefer to hear your style, opinions and insights.

  15. anon says:

I’d rather listen to the Transmission, the LostCasts, or Get Lost with Scott and Steve than anything ABC produces. Thats’ the whole point of listening to the podcst, it is fan based and personal.

  16. abcdefghijklmnñopqrstuvwxyz says:

¿¡¡Y qué coño es una podcast!!?

  17. Kate says:

I will stay with the Transmission — I love listening to you guys, you keep it interesting but you also keep it real. I love and in fact need the recaps as my baby is frequently fussing for some reason when I sit down and watch my show.

love you guys! Keep up the great work!

  18. Ronell says:

Hey when I went back and watched the the orientation film again from the institute it said they had to stay there 540 days. That’s 108 x 5 = 540. Don’t know what that means but maybe you lost scholars can find some meaning in it.

You all will still be the number 1 podcast.

  19. Albert Yau of chicago IL says:

*Yawn*.. excuse me, i just woke up. i must’ve fallen asleep after listening to ABC’s Lost podcast. ryan and jen, we love your podcast much better. a bunch of us here in chicago get together and listen to your podcasts an hour before each new episode in a pre-lost party. keep up the great work and pump out those podcasts asap!

  20. joe says:

hey guys. great job. i have been listening for a little over a month and lost is my favorite tv show. i downloaded the abc podcast and didnt care for it that much. yours has alot more depth with your points of view and the feedback you get from people everyweek. keep up the good work. love you guys. im sticking with you. your number one in lost.

  21. lostfan101 says:

Well Abc decided you’r show was to good and decided to rip off you’r idea.

    flattery or what?.

  22. Will says:

Guys, I will be here for the Transmission faithfully. I like the idea of another Lost podcast, but my initial impulse is that anything top down from a studio will always be a bit self serving and not as rich. My hunch was correct.

I’ll still subscribe to theirs in hopes that there may be interesting tidbits, but the Transmission as you guys have designed and execute it each week is the way it should be done. I’d say that you two are still schooling the ABC folks.

  23. Lovena says:

I love the Transmission and prefer the fan-based and intimate style of your pod! The Transmission No Ka Oi!

  24. Katie says:

Does anyone know if ABC has a regular feed for their podcast? I don’t have iTunes and don’t really want to direct download it.

I looooooooooooove the Transmission and seriously doubt that the official cast is going to be better than what you guys have, Ryan and Jen!

  25. Ryan says:

You guys are awesome. I hope there’s room in your ears for everyone! As to your question, Katie, they seem to have an RSS feed (for your media aggregator) here.

  26. Cory says:

Your show is far superior! Keep up the great work!

  27. Scott says:

C’mon Ryan, no more apologies for the sound/production values of The Transmission. It’s fine. I listened to the ABC cast and it doesn’t have the good soul of yours and Jen’s. The Transmission is like friends sitting around talking about a tv show they enjoy and just having fun with it. I really appreciate the work you two do to put it together, thanks so much, and I hope you all have as much fun doing it as I do listening. Mahalo.

  28. Santa says:

You guys rock! I am staying right here with you and Jen. I feel like we are all old friends and I’m not going anywhere!

I wish someone could tell me if the crash survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 really are on an island and if they were all even in an airplane that actually crashed? Is it possible the whole thing is a big top secret government experiment?

Sincerely from one of LOST’s #1 Fans!

  30. Steve says:

Here is my theory on the show. Stay with me now this can get intense!!

OK it all starts with a man named Alvar Hanso. He was a man of faith. He loved all the world’s phenomenon. He also loved studing the way humans work. He grew up and went to college where ever it may have been and met a man. A man that would later become his best friend. This man’s name was Widmore. I forgot his first name, but his last name was Widmore. Widmore was a man of science. He also had the same fascination with the world’s phenomenon and he began to study it with his friend Alvar Hanso. Late in Life they became Partners in a single unkown company. This company did not last and due there scientific and faith based issues they split and even grew to hate each other. They became arch rivals and both tried to study the same thing. This was the South Pacific Green Flash. The Green Flash is a phenomenom in the sky that happens only on certain nights in certain areas of the the south pacific. This happens only for a few minutes before the sun sets. Alvar Hanso was looking for a secluded spot to do his studies and came upon a uninhabited island. This island is the island our Lost cast is on right now. Any back to Alvar Hanso. In order to claim the island as his he had a massive statue built of himself off the shore of the island pointed toward the Green Flash. Alvar Hanso spawned the Dharma Initiative through the Hanso Foundation. The dharma initiative were a group of extremely smart scientists such as Marvin Candle that Alvar Hanso hired to run multiple tests on the island. They tested many things such as the human pysche, zoology, electromagnetism, and much more. Widmore found out about this secret island and always would try to infiltrate the island and hack into his system whether it would be through a boat or in a ballon. That is why the ballon has the widmore logo on it. These test were a hige success. They made huge advances especially in the human psyche. They were even able to find out a way for a person to move things eventually very large things with there mind. he was able to move there thoughts pysically all around the island. These test subjects were even able to read minds. This was all fine and dandy until th incident. The incident which is unknown destroyed the dharma initiative and there were only a few that survived. These survivers are the others. Those people who were able to convert there thoughts into pyshical form were in that process and died in that process. there thoughts were stuck to roam the island and protect it. This is used by the others and it is the black cloud that roams around and kill of all the bad people as order by the others. This black smoke also read the mind of eko and we were able to see those thought inside the cloud as it was reading eko’s mind. The cloud was going to kill eko because it thought that he was originally a bad person via all the drug dealing and killing eko has done, but when it saw how he helped his brother and became a preist it decided to leave eko alone. This cloud is also responsible for the whispers and for all the illusions. As I said it takes on the form of the person’s thoughts. It was the polar bear that attacked michael and walt after walt read the comic with the polar bear. And in that flash back in that episode michael gave walt a polar bear doll right before he left. The smoke was also the horse that kate saw because there was a horse in kates flashback. And the smoke was hurley’s friend from the mental hospital. The smoke was also Jack’s father in the begining of season one. It is unknown how kelvin arrived on the island but we all know how desmond arrved on the island and why the lost cast is oon the island. Now it is all up to the show to unfold what happens next and all I know is that I can’t wait for season 3!!!!!!!!!!!!
